Hope and Happiness

A minister in my community told a story of his wife’s experience having twins with Twin-to-Twin Transfusion Syndrome (TTTS) – a serious disorder where an artery of one twin branches off the other’s umbilical cord to weaken and get oxygen and blood from the other.  Meanwhile the mother’s condition mimics that of the weak fetus, with symptoms that include vomiting, hypertension, extreme body swelling, and dangerous build-up of fluid in her lungs.  This can be life-threatening for both.

I couldn’t help but see a futile situation unveil for them, but in it all this couple had hope.  In the stench of despair, hope was found in a procedure that doctors milled like magicians cutting the veins on the ailing twin from crippling the other.  Revival!

A woman, Maggie, was pleased of her only son’s decision to join the military, and more pleased that he was fortunate to be stationed close to home.  She spoke with him with the same jubilant chat they usually share telephonically.  The next day, she learned, to her daunting surprise, that her son died.  Even more of a dismay was that the military would not let her see his body, and for weeks was not told what caused his death.  Despite that, she faced surgery for a cancerous lung.

You see, Maggie has always been a happy person and despite despair tearing the deep marrow of her life force she vowed to claim her happiness again. Maggie revisited the way she saw her son, as the best-looking guy in the world and his helpful nature that flourishes the person he was – it hit her joyful spirit, happiness sprang through.

Life brings us pleasure but it is not written in the annals J that it [happiness] will be waiting for us.  Find it! Not by feeding into a bad situation – gravitate to the hopeful, see the happy.

Having hope is so essential to reviving any chance of peace and happiness, essential for reviving yourself.

Having hope means sustaining your own life and realizing that prolonging sadness is a detriment to it.

Life goes on, let the happy do too!
