International Day of Happiness

How do you do your ‘day’, how to you do “life”!

International Day of Happiness aims to make people around the world realize the importance of happiness within their lives. Yes, it’s already there. Many factors can ‘steal’ our happiness, but this happiness exists in all of us.

In 2011, Jayme Illien, President of the World Happiness Foundation, proposed the idea of the International Day of Happiness. He introduced this at the United Nations General Assembly to promote Happiness economics around the world.

The day was officially established in 2012 and first commemorated in 2013. Building on the concept of Jayme Illien, the United Nations has taken a step forward with World Happiness Day. The aim is to inform people about the importance of happiness in their lives. It also emphasizes the need to incorporate happiness into public policies. [Wikipedia]

This is ONE day, but that sentiment should be relegated to ALL days.

Mostly we have many positives in our lives/days. It is uncanny how one bitter point can taint the entire threshold of happy in people!

Today, let’s pull back, stop and scan into our goodness and true joy, and really engage our happiness.  Look within and see the fact that you are present, not underground – you are here!  And wherever you are, so is that buzzing YOU.  You may not feel well today. You may be dwelling in some sadness that came ‘upon your doorstep’. But there you are existing and that’s happiness, among many more! You probably won’t reasonably change places with someone with a terminal illness, will you!

Share happiness with friends and family on this International Day of Happiness. Note, cherish and appreciate what you are thankful for… really note – even ‘the little things’ can be very fulfilling. Consider making days of happiness – after all, it is in you.  Our God didn’t make us to get happiness from someone else. Instead, dig it out: take time to donate to a cause. Spend time with someone you promised to get together with. Try to repair any relationships going through a rough patch. Good quality relationships are crucial to happiness. You can take this day to donate to a charity. You can also consider volunteering with a cause. Doing so encourages good deeds and helps others. It’s a particularly powerful tool on this day because it helps us to instantly share our activities, as well as bring joy that can be spread all over the world.
World peace, I believe, can actually start here!
